Mystery Night

In the spring generally, as interest fades, I will occasionally have a 4 - 6 week period where one night, unknown to everyone but me, where if all of the clubbers pass a section, then I will receive a whipped cream pie in the face (or something similar). The clubber who passes the most sections that night is the one who gets to put the pie in my face.

This way clubbers will come to club each week prepared to say a verse because they do not know which week is "the week".

However, what I try to do is to have a leader let it "leak out" without me knowing ;-) that the following week is the week where if everyone says a section that I will get the pie. This helps build excitement for the following week.

Now because there may be someone attending that week who wasn't there the week before and parents who do not work with their childrren through the week, I do offer some grace, although generally leaders work with the clubbers so everyone passes a section. Clubbers will also help one another to meet the goal.

What a neat idea! We do a Pie-in-the-Face Contest Quarterly, to motivate clubbers to bring Missions Money above and beyond their dues. Leaders wanting to participate, have a container with their name and picture on it. Clubbers choose which container to put their money in. Leaders and the amount raised each week are tracked. One week prior to the presentation of the pie, the Leaders and Clubbers are told who the winner is. Weekly updates are given leading up to the actual night. At the end of the year, the church writes a check for the total amount raised. The check is presented to the Outreach Ministry in our area, that we have chosen to support. The kids love this!
