Serving Together to Reach Boys and Girls with the Gospel of Christ

Over the years, I have gained a little bit of weight. If I was a beer drinker, they'd call it a "beer belly". Since I don't drink, I'd prefer to call it a "pastoral belly" :-)

The weight gain began many years ago when I stopped moving around at work and became more stationary. Now I drive over an hour to work one way, sit at a desk most of the day, and then drive home where often I sit to work on CommanderBill.net, ministry responsibilities in the local church, or regional Awana items.Over the last month or so, I've had people who I have not seen for a few years note that I've gained a few pounds.

I am very sedentary and I need to be more active and by doing so, I know that I will be able to lose some weight (along with watching some of what I eat). During the last week or so as I worked on outside projects, I lost about five pounds so I am looking to continue to be active.

I know that by doing so myself, I will lose motivation and I know that with accountability, I will have a better chance of sticking to it. That's where you come in. I'd like you to help keep me accountable.

You can do so by joining me in this challenge in one or more of the following ways:

  • commit to giving a donation to your Awana missionary for every pound I (Commander Bill) lose
  • commit to be an encourager/motivator for me during this challenge
  • come along side of me and strive to lose weight and get others to donate to your Awana missionary for your weight loss

I'll be beginning this Sunday, June 5th where I will weigh myself in and continue to do so every Sunday morning and then post an update. To give you an idea, the Biggest Loser BMI calculator has me as "obese" and my goal is to get to where I'm "normal". Ultimately, that is about 75 - 80 lbs.

Please keep track of my progress and let me know if you will join me in this by joining the Summer Challenge 2011 group.

I will join you in this challenge! Love it! is there an ending date you have set to lose the weight by?
I noted it on the group page. The ending date of the challenge is October 22nd, the last Awana conference I anticipate being a part of this season. Though I realize I probably won't lose all of the weight by then, I'm hopeful to have a routine down to continue to meet the goal within a year's time.

Check out chantellhobbs.com where Chantell gives encouragement and book titles to show you how she lost about 200 lbs.  She has been a guest on Focus on the Family, and her web-site is about faith food and fitness.  I need to put in my 25-30 pounds worth on your challenge to trim off some of those years.

Thanks, Amy

With your permission Commander Bill I would like to join you in your weight loss challenge.

My fitness trainers use the Paleo diet. Basically it is a hunter/gather diet. If you are not able to kill it, forage for it, it's not in the diet! So a lot of meats, fruits, veggies, nuts. NO dairy. This is what I plan on using.
Bill, I will join your team. I started my journey to healthy living 18 months ago at the age of 54. I have lost 91 pounds and I can tell you that without my support network, I would have never made it.
