Serving Together to Reach Boys and Girls with the Gospel of Christ

I'm currently teaching the T&Ters The Lord's Prayer.  Each week we take 2 verses and talk about what they mean.  The kids have done a great job with this!  This week we are explaining "and lead us not into temptation."  I could use some help!  How have you explained this verse to the students?

James 1:13-14 God does not tempt anyone, but we are tempted when are dragged away and enticed. When we do not follow God's lead to do what is right. So "lead us not into temptation", we are not praying that God would lead us to temptation, but that He would guide us away from it and guard us - which He will do if we follow, but unfortunately, we don't always follow. So we are also praying for the strength, courage, and wisdom to follow Him.

Keep in mind that God does allow us to be tempted. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God will not allows us to be tempted beyond what we can handle, and when we are tempted, God always has an escape route for us, we need to follow Him to escape. So He would be leading us away from temptation, He would be leading us not into temptation.

So set up a course with tempting things on the sides (cookies, candy, trading cards, toys, whatever) and have the clubbers follow you single file. You will not be leading them to temptation, but temptations will be close by. If they go out of the line, stop following, and yield to the temptation, You didn't lead them there, they were enticed. God can only lead if we follow, so "lead us not into temptation" is praying to help us follow Him and avoid the temptations.
