About Commander Bill

I, "Commander Bill" Gunter, have served in Awana since the mid 1990's when my children became involved and I saw the need in the local church to serve. Prior to that, my only exposure to Awana was a name of one of several ministries for youth listed in a text book.

I quickly saw the impact of Awana and wondered how much more effective we could be if we worked together, churches/clubs sharing ideas, etc. I initiated a web site to begin that network which since that time has become CommanderBill.net.

Similar web sites have fallen by the wayside for various reasons. The main ones are Awana Resources Online (ARO, which was around as I began) and then MattsResources.net which emulated this site, but due to unforeseen circumstances shut down. CommanderBill.net still remains strong and growing with this community format. The site is not designed to compete with Awana.org, but rather to compliment it by providing a place to share ideas and help get information out to the many serving in Awana. Whenever possible, we will direct you to the Awana web site.

I have served in children and youth ministry for over 20 years with various sizes of groups and I desire to help others reach their full potential in ministry; but I readily admit that I do not have all of the answers and my ministry is not "perfect". I approach concerns with the "big picture" in mind.

I currently am not in Full-Time ministry, I work a FT secular job, while serving as a PT Associate Pastor of Children & Youth in my local church, serving on the ministry team of two Awana Missionaries in different areas and maintaining CommanderBill.net.

My prayer is that you will find this site as a resource to help you grow in your ministry. It is my hope that this community will be an interactive one, sharing ideas one with another. Together, we can do great things for the Kingdom!
