1. Not communicating enough with Directors & Leaders
2. Wanting to get involved in everything
3. Getting stuck behind the desk
4. Not spending enough time at the desk
5. Not delegating (trusting)
6. Micro-managing (limits freedom)vs. Macro-managing (allows more
freedom)
7. Expectations that are too high
8. Not keeping your Pastor informed – He is ultimately responsible!

9. Not keeping Awana before the church
10. Thinking that EVERYBODY should think like you do! Be
considerate of others who do not – have balance
11. Letting Awana responsibilities overtake family time * Do not
neglect family!
12. Letting Awana responsibilities overtake your personal time with
the Lord. You need time daily with the Lord. Do not expect the
Pastor to feed you!
13. (New Awana Program) Not enough attention to details. Address
details during the first year.
14. (Old Awana Program) Leaders “who shall not be moved” God will
give grace to deal with this…
15. Working with a budget – “What Budget???” Our stewardship says a
lot about us.
16. Relying on hand me down training from previous Commanders. Be
open to new ideas and additional training. Don’t neglect the
basics.
17. Overlooking 3 valuable resources called: Awana Orientation,
Commander Role Book, Commander College
