Catina - Thanks for your comments and the testimony of your club
Diane - 9 out of 30! I think that's great!. That's about 1/3 of the club participating in quizzing! You'll never get 100% and I think that about 33% is excellent! And you make an excellent point, it is not whether you win or not, but that they've learned God's Word and are not ashamed to share it with others. Thanks for the comment!

Comment by Catina Coleman on February 8, 2011 at 3:15am I've been an Awana Leader since "before kids." In that 1st church we quizzed, because, well, that's what Awana clubs do! When I moved to California and my oldest daughter became a T&Ter, I stepped up into that club which hadn't been to a quiz in many years. I knew I wanted my daughter to have that experience, so I started asking about quizz & games participation without much interest from the children's staff who had too much else to do. The next year when the T&T Dir stepped down, I took over and began preparing the kids to compete. They were, of course, hesitant about their abilities, but with lots of excitement coming FROM ME, they attending practices.
I'll never forget the girl, on the bus to our 1st quiz, tell me in a little voice that she was afraid. I nodded and with a big grin I explained to her that I too was a bit scared, but since our bodies react exactly the same way whether we're fearful or excited, I was telling MY body I was EXCITED to see how God would help us this night! She had to think about that, but her excitement was evident as, with a huge grin she accepted a 2d place ribbon that night to show for her hard work, preparations, and faithfulness.
I'd therefore, agree with Cmd Bill. It's the excitement of the Leaders that set the tone for whether kids will quiz or not. Sad there are more who agree with the benefits proven by Awana founders.
