Serving Together to Reach Boys and Girls with the Gospel of Christ

Missionary Spotlight – Charles Nderitu

Awana in Kenya began in 1992. Dan Wilson helped cast the vision of reaching boys and girls for Christ in Kenya by using the Awana program. Eventually Bedan Wangugi became the first Awana Kenyan missionary. In 1997, Kenneth Kalama became the second missionary. Charles Nderitu is currently the national director for Awana in Kenya.

With the Leader Based Strategy, he is helping to reach thousands of children for Christ.

I sent Charles some interview questions to help us get to know him and his ministry, below are his answers:

How long have you been an Awana Missionary?

8 years

What area do you serve?

Kenya

# of churches under your care: As the national director I help equip leaders to strengthen the 700 clubs

Fun Facts: Favorite food, favorite sport, something interesting people don’t know about you, etc…(whatever info you want to share):

Kienyenji, zima, Fish, I also love eating fish

Why are you an Awana Missionary?

God called me to help church leaders get involved in reaching children and youth and disciple them for Christ

Share something God is doing in your ministry:

He is teaching me every day that blessed are those whose trust is the Lord

Tell us something about the materials used and how Awana is designed for your country:

We use LBS (Leader Based Strategy). We start with games, the council time and finish with team time.

What would you say to a local Awana Commander or Leader in the U.S.?

That the most important thing is your relationship with God and then be a faithful steward of all that God has revealed to you in regard to reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ because life is short and we will give an account.

How can we specifically pray for you over the next month?

Pray that we will keep walking worthy of the Lord, my theme to Awana leaders this year is going back to the basics and emphasizing the results, pray that all key ministry team leaders will buy this and run with it, and for prayer and financial partners to increase in standing with Kenya ministry.
